Questions about comfort, energy bills, or which upgrade is right for you?

Just Ask Our Expert

What sets Shoreline apart is our foundation in building science. Talk to Ron McLaughlin, Shoreline’s Registered Energy Advisor, about your home and the rebate programs you may qualify for.

Unlike contractors who focus on a single upgrade, Ron looks at how your windows, insulation, heating and cooling, ventilation, and air sealing work together, so every improvement performs the way it should.

A BCIT-trained Red Seal Carpenter and Registered Energy Advisor with Natural Resources Canada, Ron helps you find the upgrade that best fits your goals and budget. Send him a message or book a free consultation to get started.

Local Building Performance Professionals You Can Trust

Upgrading to a Properly Insulated, Air-Sealed Attic

We install high-performance attic insulation matched to your home and British Columbia’s climate zone. Choose from blown-in fibreglass, blown cellulose insulation, and mineral wool, each selected to improve thermal performance and reduce heat loss through your attic.

Proper air sealing comes first. We seal the attic hatch, electrical boxes, and other penetrations so warm, moist air isn’t escaping into your attic before we add insulation.

The result is an air-sealed envelope with the right insulation levels for lasting comfort, lower energy bills, and better moisture control.

We Advise On Rebates That Reward Your Investment

BC homeowners have access to valuable insulation rebate programs, and we help you use them fully. We guide you on eligibility, connect you with a registered energy advisor, and make sure your attic retrofit qualifies for the incentives it's entitled to.

Beyond the rebates, upgrading your attic's thermal performance delivers real returns through lower energy bills and improved comfort. We regularly partner with renovation teams across the province to fold insulation upgrades into larger home retrofits and community projects.

What Sets Shoreline Building Performance Apart

Your attic affects far more than the space under your roof, but most insulation contractors aren’t building science experts. We take a deeper look. We make sure your attic is air-sealed, properly ventilated, and working with the rest of your building envelope, not against it.

Our registered energy advisors guide you through your rebate options and help ensure your insulation upgrade qualifies for the incentives available through BC Hydro and FortisBC programs.

Shoreline attic insulation services include:

  • Blown-in insulation (blown-in fibreglass and blown cellulose insulation
  • Batt insulation with fibreglass batts and mineral wool
  • Complete air sealing of the attic hatch, penetrations, and top plates
  • Attic ventilation with soffit vents, rafter vents, and roof vents
  • Insulation inspection, rebate coordination, and post-project care

A properly insulated, air-sealed attic offers:

  • Lower Energy Bills
  • Improved Comfort Year-Round
  • Reduced Drafts and Heat Loss
  • Less Heat Transfer in Summer and Winter
  • Better Moisture Control and a Protected Attic
  • Reduced Load on Your Heating and Air Conditioners

Available Rebates & Incentives For Attic Insulation

To qualify, your home is generally your year-round primary residence (detached home, duplex, townhome, or mobile home on a foundation) heated by electricity, natural gas, propane, or solid fuel, with a residential utility account through BC Hydro, FortisBC, or a municipal utility. Insulation rebates typically require a pre- and post-upgrade EnerGuide assessment by a registered energy advisor, and some programs apply household income or property value thresholds.

BC Hydro & FortisBC Attic Insulation Rebates
  • Rebates up to $5,500 available for eligible attic insulation upgrades that raise your attic to current recommended insulation levels
  • Rebate value depends on the effective R-value added and the insulation type installed
  • Professional installation by a qualified contractor is required
  • A pre- and post-upgrade energy assessment by a registered energy advisor may be required

Ideal Time to Upgrade Your Attic Insulation

It may be time to upgrade your attic insulation if you notice any of the following:

  • Drafts, cold spots, or rooms that never hold temperature
  • Ice dams forming along the roof edge in winter
  • Rising energy bills and hard-working furnaces or air conditioners
  • Thin, settled, or damaged insulation over the floor joists
  • Signs of moisture buildup or pest infestations in the attic

Most rebate programs require pre-approval before installation, so it’s best to start early.

Insulation Types We Offer

  • Blown-in insulation: blown-in fibreglass and blown cellulose insulation (recycled newsprint treated with boric acid) for seamless coverage over floor joists
  • Batt insulation: fibreglass batts and mineral wool (rock wool) for accessible, evenly-framed attics
  • Rigid board insulation: foam board and rigid foam boards for attic hatches and knee walls
  • Hybrid systems: spray foam air sealing combined with blown-in insulation
  • Work on single-family homes, duplexes, row homes, and mobile homes

Frequently Asked Questions

How much attic insulation do I need in BC?

Recommended insulation levels depend on your climate zone and how much insulation you already have. A registered energy advisor can measure your current effective R-value (not just the nominal R-value on the label) and recommend how much to add to reach today's recommended levels for your home.

Should I choose blown-in insulation or batt insulation?

Blown-in insulation (blown-in fibreglass or blown cellulose) gives seamless coverage over floor joists and around obstructions, while fibreglass batt insulation suits accessible, evenly-framed attics. Read more about why Shoreline uses these methods instead of spray foam insulation on our blog. The best insulation type depends on your attic.

Do you air seal before adding insulation?

Yes. We air seal penetrations first, the attic hatch, electrical boxes, plumbing and piping stacks, and light fixtures, so warm, moist air isn't escaping into the attic. Air sealing before insulating improves thermal performance and helps with moisture control.

Will new attic insulation help with ice dams and summer heat?

Proper insulation, air sealing, and attic ventilation with soffit vents and rafter or roof vents reduce the heat loss that contributes to ice dams in winter and cut the heat transfer that overworks air conditioners in summer.
